이 글이 지향하는 목적은 현대 예술의 위기를 불러온 역사적 원인들을 살펴보고 이를 회복시키기 위한 한스 로크마커(Hans Rookmaaker: 1922-1977)의 칼빈주의적 시도를 예술적 관점에서 구성해 보는 것이다. 여기서 로크마커 칼빈주의 예술론은 우리에게 3가지 중요한 원리를 제시하고 있는 것으로 보인다. 먼저 창조세계의 아름다움을 강조한다. 그래서 예술은 하나님의 창조의 아름다움을 감각하고 느낀 것을 하나님이 주신 재능과 영감으로 표현하는 것이다. 다음은 타락한 세계의 추함을 깊이 이해하고 있다는 사실이다. 특히 로크마커는 위기에 처한 현대 예술을 분석할 때 타락한 세계의 추함을 부각시켰다. 그에 따르면, 현대 예술이 국가와 하나님 그리고 이성에 저항하는 모습에서 현대 예술의 위기가 나타난다. 마지막으로 타락한 세계의 추함을 극복할 수 있는 예술적 변혁의 가능성은 기독교 세계관 안에서 이루어지는 예술적 성취를 통해서 반드시 완성된다는 사실이다. |

The purpose of this paper is to examine the characteristics of modern art, by studying art works of fallen world and try to configure Calvinistic art to overcome this pathological phenomenon with focusing on Hans Rookmaaker''s beauty theory and Christian worldview. I think Rookmaaker''s Calvinistic theory of art gives three factors to questions about the matter. First, Rookmaaker regard this created world as beauty. He stressed the beauty of this world on the basis of the perfection of God''s creation in order to overcome a crisis of contemporary arts. So the true beauty is the created world which shows the existence of the God''s perfection. Arts is human representation of God''s creation via human talent and inspiration. So Rookmaarker thinks that artists should find the beauty in this created world. Secondly, arts should show the deep insight into the ugliness of the fallen world. Rookmaarker made analysis of ugliness of the fallen world expressed in contemporary arts. He thinks that one can see the crisis of contemporary arts in its inclination to stand against nation, God and reason. Thirdly, the artistic renovation which will overcome the ugliness of this fallen world is fullfilled by the artistic accomplishment achieved in Christian worldview. Rookmaarker suggests that this created world can be reformed via arts. Love and mercy should be given to this world in the limit of freedom of grace given by Christ.
