| 국문 초록 | 본 연구는 미북감리교 첫 간호선교사인 루이스(Ella A. Lewis)가 내한 한 1892년부터 1940년까지 내한 한 간호선교사들의 주 사역지와 활동기간 및 주요 업적을 기술한 연구이다. 이 시기에사역한 간호선교사의 수는 79명이며 구체적으로 미북장로교 25명, 미북감리교 13명, 미남장로교15명, 미남감리교 11명, 캐나다장로교 8명, 호주장로교 7명이었다. 내한 한 간호선교사들은 소속교단의 지역에 있는 병원을 중심으로 사역하였다. 주로 병원을 거점으로 환자간호와 간호교육을수행 하였고, 지역사회로 그 활동범위를 확대해나갔다. 간호사로서 전문 사역인 보건교육, 질병예방 등의 지역사회의 건강을 증진하는 활동을 하면서 또한 열악한 여성의 인권에 대한 계몽운동으로 여성교육 등을 행하면서 사회참여활동도 수행하였다. 그리고 여건이 되는 한 늘 영혼구원을위한 전도사역을 병행하고 있는 것을 볼 수 있었다. 그리고 병원행정자로서 우리나라에 근대 간호의 도입에 많은 역할을 감당하였다. |
| 영문 초록 | This study describes the key areas of activity, working period and major achievements of nurse missionaries who worked in Korea from 1892 to 1940, including Ella A. Lewis who was the first nurse missionary from the northern American Methodist. There were seventy-nine nurse missionaries in total during the period. They consisted of twenty-five Presbyterians and thirteen Methodists from the northern America, fifteen Presbyterians and eleven Methodists from the southern America, eight Canadian Presbyterians, and seven Australian Presbyterians. They carried out their ministry mainly in the local hospitals they had established in the regions of their religious affiliation. Using the hospitals as a strategic position, they provided patient care and nursing education and they extended their field activities to local communities. As nurses, the missionaries preformed health promotion activities for the community such as health education and disease prevention as professional nursing activities and they further participated in social activities against women’s poor human rights. Also it was witnessed that they combined their missionary works for spiritual salvation as long as their conditions permitted. In addition, as hospital administrators, they made a great contribution to the introduction of modern nursing in Korea. |
