영문 초록 In comparison to Western thought, the most `oriental` concept in Eastern ideas could be Ch`i. Most of the main concepts in Oriental philosophy are the expression of self-reliant experiences and therefore have various meanings. The same applies to Ch`i. So it would be unfeasible to decipher the identity of Ch`i without first comprehending when and how Ch`i concept was brought up and also how it had altered through the changes of times. Through the historical changes of Ch`i, we can induce sundry theoretical common denominators, which we will criticize from the perspective of Christian view of the world. Ch`i-theory evinces anti-Christian theoretical factor which unequivocally differs from Christian view of cosmology etc. The cosmology in Ch`i-theory can be epitomized to organicism. This illustrates at least two dissimilar aspects to Christian cosmology, Above all, the Creation of God and the process of providence are completely excluded and also both mankind and all the other creation are basically considered homogeneous beings consisting of Ch`i. In Ch`i-theory, `time`(history) has a transmigrating structure and consequently the theory doesn`t approbate any transcendental existence other than the nature`s own laws of motion, and which, coming from mainly an atheistical or pan-atheistical standpoint, is exhaustively antipodal theory to Christian cosmology. And more importantly, the part that have to be handled with extra caution for Christians is `self-cultivation`. Recently, methods of moral culture, attempts that are to cultivate one`s mind and body through practicing Ch`i in daily lives, are prevailing in our society. These methods are prevalent among some Christians and securing ardent members even among ministry. However, in the cultivating methods of Ch`i the theoretical composition which makes the main basis is anti-Christian and the part that recommend to have neither belief nor conception in the process of meditative practice is particularly anti-Christian. That is because this kind of meditative method exhibits great difference form a `prayer` that is the most important in Christians` spiritual practice and communion experience. Praying is the essence of Christianity loving the figure of the Lord and supplicating for mercy and forgiveness. This tells us that there is more than a formal difference so called `emptying` and `filling`, and there is an essential difference between the meditative method of Ch`i and a prayer of Christianity in a view of the world. The fact which has to be kept in mind from the perspective of Christians is that Jesus is the touchstone of all spiritual discretion, John said the following concerning this: "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God: because many false prophets have gone out into the world."(1 JOHN 4:1)
