상담은 신학과 심리학의 이중 언어로 이루어진다. 상담자의 신학은 상담자의 세계관을 형성하며 상담자가 사용하는 신학 언어와 심리학 언어에 영향을 미친다. 칼빈주의 상담자는 모든 지혜가 하나님으로부터 온다는 것을 믿기 때문에 신학과 심리학의 언어 모두를 능통하게 사용한다. 그들은 칼빈주의에 비춘 심리학의 한계를 인식하고 심리학적 지식을 상담에 적극적으로 사용한다. 칼빈주의 상담자는 신학과 심리학을 서로 배치되는 것으로 보지 않기 때문에 인간의 심리와 행동을 각각 신학과 심리학의 언어로 설명할 수 있다. 그들은 성경의 많은 가르침들을 심리학의 언어로 설명할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 성경에서 심리학의 개념들을 발견한다. 칼빈주의 상담자는 상담 과정에서 하나님을 의지하고 내담자의 성장을 촉진하며 하나님의 주권과 영광을 상담에서 뿐만 아니라 내담자의 삶에서도 구한다.

This paper proposes that therapy is bi-lingual in theology and psychology. The theology of the therapist forms his or her world view and determines the languages that the therapist uses. Calvinistic therapists are experts in the languages of theology and psychology because they believe all wisdom comes from God. They actively utilize psychological knowledge in therapy, acknowledging the limits of psychology in light of Calvinism. Because Calvinistic therapist do not think theology and psychology are contradictory, they can explain human psychology and behavior in each language. They can explain many teachings in the Bible with the language of psychology and find many psychological concepts in the Bible as well. Calvin therapists rely on God in the therapy process, facilitate the growth of clients, and seek God’s sovereignty and glory in therapy as well as in the lives of clients. |
