본 논문의 목적은 해방 이후 한국의 보수 개신교 복음주의 운동 탄생에 영향력을 행사했던 미국 복음주의 하위문화를 이해하는 한 가지 맥락으로, 미국 네비게이토 선교회 형성 및 국제화 과정의 변천사를 검토하는 것이다. 20세기 초 근본주의 단체로 출범한 네비게이토는 보수적 “제자도” 탄생에 주요한 역할을 수행해 왔다. 네비게이토 운동은 2차 대전 직후 냉전 시기 미국 패권의 논리와 상응하면서, 세계로 수출되기 시작한다. 세계로 확산되는 와중에 네비게이토 국제본부는 다양한 도전을 마주하게 되면서, 1980년대 중반 기존의 제자도 개념에 대한 패러다임 전환을 시도한다. 미국 및 국제 네비게이토 변천사를 점검하는 것은 한국의 근본주의-복음주의 선교운동을 이해하는 데 있어서도 유의미한 참조점이다. |
| 영문 초록 |
The purpose of this article is to explore the issues regarding formation and internationalization of Navigator movement, as part of a study of the influence of American evangelical subculture on the post-war Korean conservative evangelicalism. Navigator movement, launched by the early 20th century fundamentalists in America, played pivotal role in birth of conservative “discipleship”. The aftermath of World War II was the beginning of internationalization of Navigator movement in concert with the logic of American hegemony. In the process of globalization, the Navigator headquarters had faced various challenges, which followed a paradigm shift in disciple-making. To investigate the history of Navigators international is a reference to understand the American origin of the birth of post-war Korean evangelicalism. |
