The vision of `lawyers without borders` is a slogan for the lawyers who want to be active Christian lawyers in this post-modern era. Beyond the boundaries of nation-states, the process of legal reorganization(a legal version of postmodernization) is rapidly going on, and the legal service in Christian perspective is increasingly needed. Facing with the important legal issues like the conflicts between the haves and the have-nots relating to their cultural identities, Christian lawyers must be able to overcome many barriers, which are caused ethnicity, language, gender and religion, and resolve a number of unprecedented matters with the innovative application of legal knowledge. In order to do it, I claim that the vision of `lawyers without border` should be shared among the Christian lawyers and intellectuals in Korea as soon as possible. The realization of the vision includes the construction of jurisprudence and legal practice based on Christianity, which demands the theoretical and practical networks for Christian lawyers today as well as the academic and educational centre for christian lawyers tomorrow. I am sure that the sincere effort of vision holders will transform the lawyer`s self-identity from lawyer-merchant or legal technician in the national level to lawyer-statesman or legal servant in the global level and reestablish their self identity as christians who are lawyers instead lawyers who are Christians. |
