This paper attempts to better understand the analogies and images of the Creator and His Creation revealed in diverse artistic discourses, and tries to elucidate and grasp the in-depth idea of the Creator being the Supreme Artist. Edith Schaeffer portrayed God as the greatest artist and craftsman. C. S. Lewis once described God as a Great Sculptor, people as His sculptures, and the world as His studio. When our attentions are shifted from the human to the natural world, we can discover that the Creator God Himself works as a land artist in a gigantic scale who takes care of the earth, and we are to acknowledge the Creator as a kinetic artist, as God Himself has planned and designed the earth, the solar system, and the whole universe as a kinetic sculpture. Ravi Zacharias also described God as a Great Master Craftsman, who, in today's context, is a textile artist. He mentions seven elements of skein which form and weave our lives. This paper focuses on the first two elements, genes and sufferings. The discourse on suffering was also mentioned by Mark Hanby and again found in the analogy of the Potter's House.
Whereas the image of a creator is portrayed as a divine and superior being in most artistic discourses, the way the Bible portrays the Creator as a potter gives us an austere impression. The Creator proclaims His full sovereignty over human-beings, as He exposes the weakness of human nature. At the same time, the Creator requires us, who are nothing but a lump of clay before the potter, to submit in all humility. After all, all human lives without any exceptions are more like potteries and pieces of art which are being formed upon the turning wheel of God. Likewise, the analogy of the Potter's House contains a precise nature of human existence as a creation of the Creator. Having been created in the image of the Creator as the finest masterpieces, human-beings themselves are creating art pieces. The discourses which have been accumulated based on art pieces created by human-beings enrich our understanding of the Creator and His creation. The expected outcome of this study will deepen the understanding of the ultimate artist - the Creator - and His creation by examining the diverse and specific artistic discourses.
