<웨스트민스터 신앙고백> 1장 6절은 하나님의 온전한 뜻을 성경 명문 외에, 성경을 전제로 삼은 바르고 필연적인 귀결을 통해서 알 수 있다고 고백한다. 이 논문은 이 ‘바르고 필연적인 귀결’이란 어떤 추리를 말하는지를 해명해 보려는 시도이다. 먼저 성경을 이해하는 데 왜 바르고 필연적인 귀결이라는 방법이 필요한지, 또 그 사용 근거가 무엇인지를 확인한다. 그 후에 우리는 “바르고 필연적인 귀결”의 “바른”이 무엇을 말하는지, 그리고 “필연적인”이 어떤 종류의 필연성을 말하는 것인지를 규명하려고 한다. 그런 후 이후의 카이퍼, 도여베르트, 클락, 포이트레스의 논리에 대한 이해를 살펴보고, 이 네 기독교 학자들 각각의 논리관을 웨스트민스터 신앙고백의 논리관과 비교하여 평가해 본다. 마지막으로 우리의 탐구 결과가 기독교적 학문 연구 일반에 어떤 기여를 할 수 있을지 탐색해 본다. |

Westminster Confession admits good and necessary consequence in addition to expressed texts of Scripture as means to know the whole counsel of God. In this article I try to clarify the meaning of ‘good and necessary consequence’. First I will check the reasons for what the Christian church need to use good and necessary consequence to get some intentions of God and seek the ground to use it in Scripture. And I try to examine and specify the exact meaning of ‘good’ and ‘necessary’ in ‘good and necessary consequence’ in Westminster Confession from the minutes of the Westminster Assembly and the writings of Gillespie, and explanations of recent writers. There are some Christian scholars who wrote about logic on Christian point of view. So I will compare their understandings of logic with that of Westminster Confession. Finally I ask if the spirit of ‘good and necessary consequence’ can be the frame for Christian academic study or not. |
