현대사회는 흔히 ‘소비 사회’로 규정되지만, ‘과소비 사회’라고 진단되기도 한다. 소비로 특징지어지는 현대 소비 사회에서, 소비는 개인의 삶의 목적이 되고 개인의 생활양식을 이루는 핵심 요인이 된다. 이와 같은 관점에서, 우선 현대 소비 사회의 특징을 분석하고, ‘과소비 이데올로기’에서 비롯된 ‘과소비 사회’에서의 개인의 소비심리와 그 문제점을 지적하며, 한국 사회의 소비문화가 드러내는 특징을 밝힌다. 다음으로, 현대 소비 사회에 대한 대안으로서, 과도한 소비를 통해 초래된 환경 위기에서 벗어날 수 있는 방안, 그리고 ‘탈성장’의 필요성 및 ‘탈성장 사회’의 추구에 대해 살펴본다. 마지막으로, 현대 소비 사회에서 그리스도인이 처한 상황을 진단하고, 소비 사회에서 그리스도인이 취해야 할 대안적 삶의 방향을 제시한다. 그리스도인이 취해야 할 대안적 삶은 하나님의 명령을 따르기 위한 욕망의 절제, 불편의 감수, 이웃 사랑이라는 구체적 실천 행위로 나타나야 한다. 특히, 이 대안적 삶은 모든 것을 자신의 유익에 종속시키지 않는 동시에 세상의 소비 욕구에 굴복하지 않는 행위로 드러나야 한다.

| 영문 초록 |
The modern society is commonly defined as ‘consumption society’, but sometimes considered as ‘excessive consumption society’ as well. In the modern consumption society characterized by the consumption, the consumption becomes the individual's purpose and the main factor which constitutes the individual's lifestyle. From this perspective, we will analyze the characteristics of the modern consumption society at first. Then we will indicate the consumer’s sentiment and its problems derived from ‘excessive consumption ideology’ in ‘excessive consumption society’, and also determine the features that the consumption culture of the Korean society reveals. Next, we will examine the way of escaping from the eco-crisis which is caused by the excessive consumption as an alternative to consumption society, and the necessity of the ‘degrowth’ and the pursuit of the ‘de-growth society’. Finally, we will diagnose the situation of the Christians in the modern consumption society, and suggest the direction of the alternative life that the Christians should adopt. This alternative life that the Christians should choose must be shown as the concrete action of behaviors such as self-control of one's desire, a willingness to be inconvenienced and the love of neighbors in order to obey God’s command. Especially, it should be revealed as behavior that one does not submit to the consumption desire of the world while everything is not subordinate to one's profit at the same time. |
