| 국문 초록 | 이 논문의 목적은 존 요더의 국가 이해를 설명하고, 그 의미를 밝히는 것이다. 현재 한국교회는 국가와의 관계에서 상당한 진통을 겪고 있다. 사회적으로는 국가의 폭력성을 줄이고 복지적인 요소를 강화해야 한다면, 한국교회는 국가의 본질과 한계를 분명히 직시하며 교회다운 참여 방법을 모색해야 한다. 이를 위해 먼저 사회학에서 바라보는 근대의 국가 이해를 살핀다. 홉스, 베버, 기든스, 버거의 이해에 따르면, 국가는 폭력의 독점체이거나 행위자이다. 그 다음은 요더의 국가론을 성경적 맥락, 기독론, 정사와 권세, 교회론의 측면에서 다룬다. 그는 국가가 지닌 두 얼굴, 즉 선한 본성과 악한 본성을 동시에 인정하면서도 폭력성을 더 강조한다. 그 이후에 요더의 논쟁 파트너이자 경쟁자인 존 칼뱅과 화란 개혁파의 국가 이해를 비교, 대조한다. 양자 사이에는 연속성과 불연속성이 존재하는데, 국가의 어두운 면인 폭력성을 더 강조할 것이냐, 아니면 국가의 선한 측면에 방점을 찍을 것이냐에 따라 다르다. 요더의 국가론과 사회참여 방식을 지지하면서도 본 연구자는 요더가 국가에 대해 지나치게 부정적이고 소극적인 시각을 비판하였다. 그러나 전체적으로 그의 국가 이해는 성경적이면서도 근대적이고, 현실적이다. 따라서 그의 국가 이해를 통해 오늘날 한국교회가 지향해야 할 사회참여의 구체적 대안과 원칙을 제시하고자 한다. |
| 영문 초록 | The purpose of this paper is to explain John Yoder's understanding of the state and clarify its meaning. The Korean church is experiencing considerable pain in relation to the state currently. Provided that the state violence should be reduced and welfare factors strengthened, the Korean church must clearly face the nature and limitations of the state and seek a church-like way of participation in state's business. To serve this purpose, this paper first examines sociological understanding of the state, and then deals with Yoder's state theory in terms of biblical context, Christology, principality and power, and ecclesiology. After that, Yoder's controversial partner and rival, John Calvin and Dutch reformist's view on state will be compared and contrasted with Yoder. Lastly, Yoder's negative and passive views on social participation will be criticised. But overall, his national understanding is biblical, modern and realistic. Therefore, through his understanding of the state, this paper presents specific alternatives and principles for social participation that the Korean church should pursue today. |
