| 국문 초록 | 본 연구는 16세기 종교개혁을 ‘난민들의 이동’으로 재해석하고, 오버만의 ‘고통당하는 유럽’(Europa Afflicta) 개념을 빌려 존 칼빈의 사역을 ‘난민 신학’(Refugee Theology)으로 규명한다. 연구는 두 가지 역사적 현장을 조명한다. 첫째, 16세기 제네바에서 칼빈은 난민을 ‘하나님의 형상’으로 영접하며 ‘구빈원’과 ‘프랑스 기금’(Bourse française) 등 체계적 복지 시스템을 구축했다. 둘째, 1555년 브라질 ‘남극 프랑스’ 선교 사례를 통해 그의 신학이 신대륙까지 확장된 초국적 연합 운동이었음을 밝힌다. 결론적으로 칼빈이 보여준 환대와 정의의 정신이 오늘날 난민 위기와 반이민 정서(xenophobia)에 직면한 현대 교회에 주는 공공신학적 함의를 도출한다. 그에게 있어 난민 돌봄은 단순한 자선이 아니라, 그리스도의 몸을 세우는 신학적 당위이자 정치적 책임이었다. |
| 영문 초록 | This study redefines the 16th-century Reformation as a massive “movement of refugees,” illuminating John Calvin’s ministry as “Refugee Theology” through the lens of public theology. Utilizing Heiko A. Oberman's concept of Europa Afflicta as an analytical framework, this paper demonstrates that Calvin perceived Christians as “rootless sojourners” (peregrinis sine radicibus) and the church as “churches under the cross” (ecclesiis sub cruce). The research focuses on two historical contexts. First, in Geneva, Calvin welcomed thousands fleeing persecution, establishing welfare systems like the General Hospital and the Bourse française to support them not as aid recipients but as bearers of the Imago Dei. Second, the study explores the 1555 mission to “Antarctic France” in Brazil. Through the tragic history of Huguenots at Fort Coligny, it establishes that Calvin’s theology was a “transnational ecumenical movement” extending to the New World. In conclusion, this paper draws public theological implications from Calvin’s spirit of hospitality and justice for the contemporary church facing global refugee crises. For Calvin, caring for refugees was a theological imperative and political responsibility. This historical model offers a vital paradigm for overcoming modern xenophobia and building the body of Christ. |
