기독교 민족운동을 논하면서 먼저 생각해 볼 것은 민족 문제에 관련한 기독교인의 사고와 행동이다. 민족 문제를 어떻게 규정하고 그에 대한 대응책을 강구하느냐에 따라 민족운동의 성격이 달라지기 때문에. 민족 문제에 대한 인식은 역사적 당면 과제를 파악하게 한다. 기독교 민족운동은 민족주의와 제휴하여 동력을 얻었다. 개신교를 받아들인 근대한국인은 새로운 보편적 체계인 기독교적 이념 위에서 새로운 국가를 건설하고자 하는 사명감을 높였다. 이렇게 세워진 한국 기독교 민족주의가 민족 통합이라는 민족 공동의 목표를 위해 행했던 역할에 대한 조명이 필요하다. 한국 기독교 민족운동에서 기독교인 민족 지도자들은 민족 통합의 의지를 보였다. 그러나 그 목표는 노선 차이로 인한 분열 때문에 달성되지 못하였다. 이에 비추어 한국 기독교 민족주의와 그것이 지닌 논리와 방법에 대한 새로운 접근이 요청된다. 역사 연구는 역사적 반성을 이끌어내며 시대적 과제에 대한 각성을 일으킨다. 각성은 역사적 행동을 자극하고 그로 인해 이루어지는 역사 만들기는 한국 기독교의 시대적 책임이다. |

Discussing the christian national movement in Korea, the first thing to review is about the matter of nation. The characteristics of a national movement may be defined according to how to define the matter of nation and how to grope for the solution of it. A acknowledge of the matter of nation makes grasping a historical problem of the moment. Joining hands with nationalism in Korea, the christian national movement got a dynamic power of development. Therefore, the Korean Protestants raised the sense of mission, by which they would construct a new country based on the christian ideology as the new universal system. A new review is needed about the role that the christian nationalism in Korea played for a common goal of the nation called the integration of a nation. In christian national movement in Korea, the national leaders who belonged to Christianity showed their intention to a integration of nation. That did not have been come true because of the division due to a differentiation of ideological line. A new approach to the christian nationalism in Korea, especially its logic and plan should be requested. The historical studies lead to a historical reflection and raise awakening to the task of the times. Awakening makes historical actions motivate, and making a history caused by it becomes the responsibility of the times of the Korean Christianity. |
