이 글에서는 기독교적 과학이란 무엇인가에 대한 하나의 답변을 시도한다. 이를 위해 먼저 기독교적 학문이란 무엇인가를 정의하고 이를 기초로 기독교적 과학이 갖추어야할 특징들을 추론해 보기로 한다. 케네스 헐만의 지적에 따르면 주어진 기존의 이론에 대해 기독교적 해석이나 세례를 주는 식으로는 결코 기독교적 학문이 될 수 없으며 기독교 세계관에 내재된 철학적 원리에 따라 각 학문의 내용들이 통일적으로 연구되는 것이 진정한 기독교적 학문이라고 할 수 있다. 필자는 이에 더해 1) 누가(who) 연구하는가? 2) 무엇을(what) 연구하는가? 3) 왜(why) 연구하는가? 4) 어떻게(how) 연구하는가? 라는 기준을 적용해 기독교적 학문을 정의하고자 한다. 이러한 기독교적 학문에 근거해 기독교적 과학을 정의한다면 한마디로, '기독교인 과학자가 하나님의 창조 영역에서 나타나는 주제들을 하나님의 영광을 위하여 성경이 제시하는 원리에 따라 기독교적 세계관의 관점에서 통일적으로 연구하는 학문'이라고 할 수 있을 것이다. |

In this paper, I will try to provide an answer to the question "What is Christian science?" For this purpose, I will define Christian scholarship first. Based on this definition, then, I will develop an answer to the main question. According to Kenneth Hermann, Christian scholarship will never be accomplished merely by interpreting a given theory in a Christian way or by Christianizing it. The true Christian scholarship will be achieved only when we systematically study and synthesize each disciplines based on the philosophical principle inherent in Christian world view. I found this is not good enough as a definition for the Christian scholarship and so I added the four additional criteria; 1) who study it? 2) what subject does (s)he study? 3) why does (s)he study it? 4) how does (s)he study it? Based on this definition, I define Christian science as follows; Christian science is a systematic study of any subjects we encounter in this created world, that should be carried out by Christian scientists for the glory of God and that should be framed within the Christian world view. |
