Economic ethics reflects the economical paradigm. Luther, acting in the region of agricultural economy shows less openness about money and interest while Calvin and Wesley accept the necessity of interest.
They also show different opinions about the role of government. Luther and Calvin perceive government as a compensator to individual for realizing God''s will. Wesley emphasizes the spiritual recovery of individual more effective than the intervention of government. For the judgment of ethical behavior, Luther focuses on the motivation, while Calvin and Wesley emphasizes social impacts of the behavior.
Luther arguing for asceticism and Calvin arguing for jubilee goes along with communist belief. Therefore the protestant ethic is not only for capitalism, but also relevant for communism. Luther, Calvin and Wesley agree that economic ethics is accomplished only when economist are spiritually revitalized. Therefore, the roll of the spirit should be more accentuated in the research of economic ethics.
