The objective of this study is to theorize about investment from a biblical perspective, which may be names `creative investment`. Existing investment deals with mainly with financial assets such as stocks, bonds, and options. Creative investment, however, extends the scope of investment: it covers many concepts beyond financial assets. Creative investment is composed of three phases: (1) investment planning, (2) investment implementation, (3) investment evaluation. The first phase deals with goal-setting and decision-making. The purpose of creative investment is to maximize heavenly wealth rather than just to maximize material wealth. For decision-making, three kinds of treasures hidden in the field (Words) have been found and evaluated. They are named absolute treasure (or truth asset), intermediate treasure (or human asset), and relative treasure (or material assets including both real assets and financial assets). I argue that these three kinds of assets can be sources of investment. They may be named truth capital, human capital, and material capital. Several investment principles have been derived from previous discussions. The second phase of creative investment covers implementation of the investment planned. In this stage, two kinds of fruits are supposed to ensue: internal fruits and external fruits. While internal fruits refer to fruits produced by the Holy Spirit, external fruits refer to every kind of deed shown in everyday life as the world`s salt and its light. The last step for creative investment is to evaluate investment performance in terms of internal and external fruits borne, or its investment objective. In a word, creative investment is not only for this world but also for the world to come. Whoever exercises creative investment will be given back a hundred times over what is needed here on earth even though this may be accompanied by persecutions, and that person shall have eternal life in the world to come. |
