본 논문은 ‘조용한 개신교 혁명’이라 불리는 동서독의 통일에 결정적으로 기여한 라이프치히(Leipzig)의 니콜라이교회(Nikolaikirche) 및 그 교회의 담임 목회자였던 크리스티안 퓌러(Christian Führer, 1943-2014)의 사상과 사역을 탐구하기 위한 고찰이다. 이를 위해 먼저 퓌러의 생애를 다섯 단계로 나누어 살펴 본 후 그가 섬긴 니콜라이교회가 왜 평화의 상징인지를 세 가지로 설명한다. 그리고 그 교회에서 퓌러가 주도한 평화기도회 및 그의 평화 사상이 어떤 의미에서 중요한지 다섯 가지로 나누어 분석한 후 이것이 어떻게 월요시위로 연결되고 발전되어 마침내 평화적인 무혈 통일 혁명으로 열매를 맺게 되었는지를 논의한다. 나아가 통일 이전에 이미 존재했던 동서독 교회의 유대관계를 살펴보면서 독일의 통일에 개신교회가 어떻게 배후에서 또한 중요한 역할을 했음을 언급한다. 마지막으로 퓌러의 사상과 사역이 한국사회와 교회에 주는 교훈이 무엇인지 결론으로 정리한다. |
| 영문 초록 |
This article deals with the relationship between the unification of Germany and the role of the church focusing on the thought and ministry of Rev. Christian Führer who was the senior pastor of Nikolai church in Leipzig. First of all, the life of Führer is dealt with in five stages. Then Nikolai church is seen as the symbol of peace in three aspects. After that, the five processes are investigated how the peace prayer meeting was developed into Monday demonstration and finally brought about the peaceful revolution of unification. Here Führer's thought of peace is more deeply analyzed. Furthermore, the special relationship between the west and east German protestant churches is discussed to demonstrate how they made a crucial contribution for the unification of Germany. In conclusion, three lessons that Korean society and church can learn from Führer are presented. |
