| 국문 초록 | 인체(人體)는 미술의 역사에서 가장 오래된 대상 가운데 하나다. 20세기 후반 들어 비재현적인, 즉 변형되거나 왜곡된 상상된 비재현적 신체 표현이 크게 증가했고, 시간이 흐르면서 더욱 심화되었다. 이 논의는 이러한 인체 표현의 현대적 경향 가운데서, 두 현대 작가, 마크 퀸(Marc Quinn)과 파트 리샤 피치니니(Patricia Piccinini)의 작품에 대해 살펴보고, 그것들에 예술적 정당성을 제공하는 이론적 틀로서 포스트휴먼 담론을 소개하고, 이를 기독교 복음과 이에 근거하는 세계관의 맥락과 대조 함으로써 현대미술의 표현에 대한 기독교적 해석의 기반을 마련하고자 하는 시도의 일환이다. 퀸은 선천적인 기형을 지닌 실제 인물을 모티브로 한 〈임신한 앨리슨 래퍼>(Alison Lapper Pregnant. 2000)를 통해 전통적 미(美) 개념에 대항하는 대안적인 미 개념으로서 기형 신체를 내세 운다. 피치니니는 인간을 포함해 적어도 두 동물 종 이상이 유전자가 뒤섞인, 괴물이나 외계인을 방불케 하는 혼종 생물체를 극사실적으로 만든다. 그녀는 가까운 미래에 그러한 혼종 생명체들의 출현을 기정사실화하면서, 그것들을 관대하게 맞이하는 포스트 휴먼 시대의 새로운 윤리의 필요성을 피력한다. 기독교 복음과 세계관에 기반하는 인식은 다음의 세 관점에서 퀸의 기형 신체와 피치니니의 돌연 변이 종에 대해 전향적인 접근을 허용한다: 고통으로 신음하는 인간과 세계에 대한 사랑의 인식. 잘못된 길로 치닫는 기술문명과 아름다움에 대한 인식, 존재 안에 각인된 하나님의 형상. |
| 영문 초록 | The human body is one of the oldest subjects in the history of art. In the second half of the 20th century, non-representational - that is, imagined, deformed or distorted - expressions of the human body increased significantly, and have intensified over time. In the midst of this contemporary trend in expressions of the human body, this paper examines the expressions of the human body by two contemporary artists, Marc Quinn and Patricia Piccinini, in an attempt to summarize the posthuman discourse as a theoretical framework that provides artistic justification for these expression, and to contrast them with Christian beliefs and worldviews in order to lay the groundwork for a Christian interpretation of difficult contemporary art. In Alison Lapper Pregnant (2000), based on the real-life figure of Alison Lapper, who was born with a congenital deformity, Quinn posits the deformed body as an alternative concept of beauty to traditional notions of beauty. Piccinini fictionalizes monstrous, alien- like hybrid creatures whose genes are a mixture of at least two animal species, including humans. She predicts the emergence of such creatures in the near future and discusses a new ethic of tolerance in the posthuman era. Thoughts and perceptions based on Christian faith and worldview can be summarized from the following three perspectives on Quinn's deformed bodies and Piccinini's mutant species : The perception of love for human beings and the world groaning in pain. Awareness of technological civilization going astray and the perception of beauty. The image of God imprinted in existence. |
